Decorating homes with scent with Jo Malone London

 

A few weeks ago one of my favorite brands, Jo Malone London, opened its first boutique in Poland. I was not in Warsaw on that day, but shortly after I had a chance to visit this beautiful place in Westfield Mokotow mall and interview Anton Denver who is JML’s Education Manager in Europe, Middle East & Africa.

I wanted to know what is his approach to decorating homes with scent. Below you can read what tips Anton shared with me and apply them in your home!

 

Upiększanie wnętrz za pomocą zapachów z marką Jo Malone London

 

Kilka tygodni temu jedna z moich ulubionych marek, Jo Malone London, otworzyła swój pierwszy butik w Warszawie. W dniu otwarcia nie było mnie w mieście, jednak kilka dni później miałam okazję odwiedzić Westfield Mokotów, zobaczyć to nowe, piękne miejsce, a także odbyć niezmiernie miłą i ciekawą rozmowę. Moim rozmówcą był Anton Denver, który w marce Jo Malone London zajmuje się szkoleniem i o produktach wie dosłownie wszystko.

Mnie tym razem interesowało to, jak możemy udekorować nasze domy za pomocą zapachów. Poniżej możecie przeczytać jakie triki polecił mi Anton i jak sami możecie upiększyć Wasze domy i mieszkania w zupełnie innym wymiarze.

 

 

Kasia: As you know, I am all about creating beautiful homes for ourselves, and our loved ones. What I like so much about Jo Malone London is that your products beautifully blend into any interior. 

You have seen some pictures of my apartment. What advice would you have for me if I wanted to arrange my apartment with scent?

Anton: Yes! Obviously, I’ve seen what your apartment looks like. It is absolutely beautiful, and I love its aesthetic. Now, one of the key things at Jo Malone London is that we believe that all of our products should hold this understated aesthetic. The power of the product should be about creating this beautiful personalized environment through scent.

We say that scenting your home or scenting a room within a home should be just as important as how you scent yourself. 

What we would do to create the perfect scent for an individual room in your home is find out a little bit more about what you would like to achieve. Do you want to add something that’s got freshness, brightness, and energy? Almost like how your room looks? Or do you want to try and add something that’s a little more warmth, sensuality, and seduction? We can create the perfect scent for your perfect moment. 

Fragrance or scenting at Jo Malone London is all about knowing what your current mood is, what is the atmosphere that you’re trying to achieve, and what is the occasion, and then we can find the perfect scent for you. 

 

Kasia: Jak wiesz, uwielbiam tworzyć piękne wnętrza dla siebie i bliskich. W Jo Malone London bardzo podoba mi się to, że produkty idealnie komponują się z każdym wnętrzem.

Widziałeś kilka zdjęć mojego mieszkania. Jaką radę miałbyś dla mnie, gdybym chciała ozdobić moje mieszkanie zapachem?

Anton: Tak, oczywiście widziałem, jak wygląda twoje mieszkanie. Jest absolutnie piękne i niezmiernie podoba mi się jego estetyka. W Jo Malone London że wierzymy, że wszystkie nasze produkty powinny mieć tę dyskretną estetykę, pasującą do każdego wnętrza. Siła produktu powinna polegać na tworzeniu tego pięknego, spersonalizowanego środowiska poprzez zapach.

Uważamy też, że ubieranie w zapach wnętrza domu lub pokoju powinno być tak samo ważne jak to czym sami pachniemy.

Anton: With JML you can scent your home in three different ways. 

You can use a diffuser, which puts a permanent scent into a room. You can light a candle, adding the scent to the room at your control, and at the same time create a beautiful ambiance through the flickering light. Lastly, you can use a room spray, which is simple as putting two pumps of scent to add immediate fragrance. 

It’s all about how you like it and what effect you want to achieve.

Kasia: That sounds great! I love how Jo Malone London layers sents when it comes to perfume and how we can use different Cologne combinations for different times of day, different moods, and different occasions. Does it also work for interiors? Do you also blend and layer scents?

Anton: Yes, exactly! It is one of the signatures at Jo Malone London and I love that you touched on that with reference to our fragrances and the fact that every single one of our scents has been architecturally constructed to be layered in order to create something completely unique for you. 

We’ve got the exact same principle when it comes to the home. So yes, you can burn one of the candles or have one of the scented diffusers but you can also create your own unique environment that nobody else is going to have by bringing two of our fragrances together into a room. This way you will be creating something completely bespoke for you and completely bespoke to the room that you’re putting it into. 

 

Anton: Z JML możesz ozdobić wnętrza zapachem na trzy różne sposoby. Możesz użyć dyfuzora, który doda pomieszczeniu trwały zapach. Możesz zapalić świeczkę, dodając zarówno zapach jak i piękną atmosferę migoczącego światła. Brzmi świetnie! Uwielbiam sposób, w jaki Jo Malone London łączy zapachy, jeśli chodzi o perfumy i to, że możemy używać różnych kombinacji wód kolońskich na różne pory dnia, w zależności od nastroju i okazji. Czy możliwe jest to także w kontekście dodawania zapachu wnętrzom? 

Anton: Tak, dokładnie! To jedna z unikalnych filozofii Jo Malone London i cieszę się, że poruszyłaś ten temat w odniesieniu do naszych zapachów oraz tego, że każdy z nich został skonstruowany tak, aby można go było łączyć z innymi, aby stworzyć coś zupełnie wyjątkowego, tylko dla Ciebie.

Identyczna zasada obowiązuje jeśli chodzi o dom. Anton: As an example, for myself, I travel a lot. So I’d like to have a permanent scent in my home so that when I arrive back, I know that I am entering my home. For me, it’s Pomegranate Noir. And one of my favorite choices or go-to scents with Pomegranate Noir is Glowing Embers from our Townhouse Collection. This way I’m bringing two different scents together. One’s got this beautiful, sweet fruitiness to it. But then, I’ve got Glowing Embers which is almost like a smoking log fire. As I bring those two worlds together, I create something completely magical in my own identity, for my room. 

So yes, you can 100% do the same thing, burn two scents that you love, or have two scents in a room to create a completely unique environment for you as an individual.

Kasia: Sounds great. And now when we are thinking about Christmas and approaching Christmas, I have some guests coming. People who are coming they’re going to stay with us for some days. How would you surprise guests using scent?

Anton: Oh, sure! So one of the most Christmassy things of all time is a Christmas tree. People love its beauty, the aesthetic of it, the styling of it, but also the smell of it. At Jo Malone London we have a signature candle or signature scent for rooms that we use every Christmas and that is Pine and Eucalyptus. I love it!

So I will either have the candle burning or simply remove the lid from it and the scent that comes from the candle is absolutely beautiful. It smells like a freshly cut Christmas tree in the room and it does so for the entire Christmas season. Along with that, again, I jump back to Glowing Embers because for me the epitome of Christmas is the Christmas tree and a beautiful warm log fire with the family gathered around. That is why I would burn those two together to really create a true Christmas feeling.

 

Anton: Ja na przykład dużo podróżuję. Dlatego chcę mieć w domu stały zapach, aby po powrocie wiedzieć, że wracam do siebie. Dla mnie to Pommegranate Noir. A jednym z moich ulubionych zapachów do Pomegranate Noir jest Glowing Embers z naszej kolekcji Townhouse. W ten sposób łączę ze sobą dwa różne zapachowe światy. W jednym jest piękna słodka owocowość, a w drugim ciepło i aromat żarzącego się kominka. Łącząc te dwa zapachy, tworzę coś całkowicie magicznego, moją własną zapachową tożsamość w moim pokoju.

Ty możesz w 100% zrobić to samo, palić dwie świece, które kochasz, aby stworzyć całkowicie wyjątkowe środowisko idealne właśnie dla Ciebie.

Kasia: Brzmi wspaniale! A teraz, kiedy myślimy o zbliżających się Świętach Bożego Narodzenia i gościach, czy masz pomysł na to jak zaskoczyć ich zapachem?

Anton: Oczywiście! Po pierwsze, jednym z najbardziej uniwersalnych atrybutów świąt jest choinka. Ludzie kochają jej wygląd oraz zapach. W Jo Malone London mamy charakterystyczny zapach którego używamy w każde Boże Narodzenie. Są to produkty Pine and Eucalyptus. Uwielbiam je!

U mnie wygląda to tak, że albo palę świecę, albo po prostu zdejmuję z niej pokrywkę, aby wydobyć jej piękny zapach. W pokoju od razu zaczyna pachnieć świeżo ściętą choinką i to przez cały okres świąteczny. Raz jeszcze wracam też do Glowing Embers, ponieważ dla mnie uosobieniem Świąt Bożego Narodzenia jest choinka i piękny ciepły kominek z rodziną zgromadzoną wokół. Dlatego chętnie łączę te dwa zapachy, aby stworzyć wielowymiarową świąteczną atmosferę.

 

 

Anton: The second combination is something that triggers your brain with a promise of something to eat. There are two scents that do this for me. The first one is the Orange Bitters candle. And that particular scent was actually inspired by a warm winter’s cocktail. And the second one that creates a true atmosphere of love and care in a home is the Pastel Macaroon candle. I feel like I’m deceiving my friends with this candle. And I love to burn it in a location where they will smell it as they enter my home. 

The Pastel Macaroon candle smells like you have been baking all day. It’s got beautiful vanilla and almond notes. It’s like eating the most deliciously fragrant macaroon. For me, this truly is styling with scent.

Kasia: Thank you, Anton! I will absolutely adopt your advice! This season. I’m looking forward to surprising my guests with amazing scents all around our apartment! Thank you for sharing these tips with me!

Anton: Druga kombinacja to coś, co działa na nasz umysł jak obietnica czegoś pysznego. Są dwa zapachy, które tak na mnie działają. Pierwszym z nich jest świeca Orange Bitters. Jej zapach został zainspirowany ciepłym zimowym koktajlem. Druga to Pastel Macaroon, która tworzy w domu prawdziwą atmosferę miłości i ciepła. Mam wrażenie, że oszukuję przyjaciół tą świecą. Uwielbiam palić przy wejściu do mieszkania, aby od drzwi poczuli ten zniewalający zapach!

Świeca Pastel Macaroon pachnie tak, jakbyś piekła przez cały dzień. Ma w sobie cudowne nuty wanilii i migdałów. To jak jedzenie najsmaczniej pachnącego makaronika! Dla mnie to właśnie jest stylizacja wnętrza za pomocą zapachu.
