The Hoptimist story – It’s all about smiles

 

 

I don’t think I know any other brand, that makes me smile so much. Hoptimist takes the unconditional first spot as it is unbeatable in cheering me up, by gentle (or not at all) jumps and dances of its beautifully made figurines. They are always happy and joyful as if they were saying – hello, what’s up, smile to me, life’s good. These small (and larger) objects made for decorative purposes are definitely some of my favorites. Hoptmists come in several sizes and many colors. My top favorites are those made of oak, although I absolutely love the new matte fellows from the Soft collection as well. No matter the size, color, and finish, they are all about positivity and joy. Something that we all need, and can never get too much of.

 

Historia Hoptimist – uśmiechu nigdy za wiele

 

Produkty żadnej innej marki nie są w stanie wywołać tak dużo mojego uśmiechu jak figurki Hoptimist. W rozweselaniu biją na głowę wszystkie inne, dzięki swojemu kołysaniu się lub szalonym podskokom. Niezwykle dokładnie wykonane, radosne i niebanalne, nieustannie sprawiają wrażenie jakby mówiły – hej, jak się masz, uśmiechnij się do mnie, życie jest takie piękne! Właśnie dlatego, te malutkie (i dużo większe) ozdobne figurki należą do moich ulubionych. Występują w kilku rodzajach, rozmiarach i wielu kolorach. Moimi faworytami są oczywiście te dębowe (choć matowa kolekcja Soft też jest przepiękna!). Każdy Hoptimist to esencja pozytywnej energii i radosci, a tych nigdy za wiele.

 

 

 

 

The story of Hoptimist goes back to the 1960s, where wood turner Hans Gustav Ehrenreich tinkered in his workshop in a little town called Stilling, on Danish Jutland. Ehenrih was a very skilled craftsman with an amazing imagination. In the late 60s, Ehrenreich created the first prototypes for Bimble and Bumble. Soon, Hans Gustav and his Hoptimists had become too well-known for production to continue in his small workshop. The rest of this story has become part of Danish design history.

 

Historia Hoptimist sięga lat sześćdziesiątych ubiegłego stulecia, kiedy to tokarz Hans Gustav Ehrenreich majstrował w swoim warsztacie w miasteczku Stilling na duńskiej Jutlandii. Ehrenreich był bardzo zrolnym rzemieślnikiem, obdarzonym niezwykłą wyobraźnią. Pod koniec lat ’60 stworzył pierwsze prototypy figurek Bimble i Bumble. Niedługo potem, Hans Gustav i jego Hoptimisty stały się zbyt popularne, aby tworzyć je w malutkim warsztacie. Reszta tej opowieści to już historia duńskiego designu.

The Hoptimist brand as we know it now was relaunched in 2009. Since then many joyful Hoptimists came to homes in Denmark and beyond, to jump and bounce, making their owners smile. The great thing about the company is that the production takes place in Denmark, which is very much aligned with Ehrenreich’s vision. When new designs are developed, it always happens in the spirit of their first creator. His basic idea was to draw the Hoptimists using a circle and an ellipse, and the classic and the new generation of figurines are based on this concept.

 

Współczesna marka Hoptimist została powołana do życia w 2009 roku. Od tego czasu wiele Hoptimistów trafiło do domów w Danii i na świecie, aby wywoływać uśmiech swoich właścicieli. Ważne jest, aby wspomnieć, że cała produkcja ma miejsce w Danii, zgodnie z wizją Ehrenreicha. Nowe figurki powstają w duchu ich pierwszego twórcy. Jego podstawowym założeniem było to, żeby projektować je przy użyciu koła i elipsy i wszystkie nowe produkty marki opierają się własnie na tym pomyśle.

 

 

 

 

Apart from the “traditional”, classic figurines like Bimble (which happens to be a girl) and Bumble (a boy), the brand has created some great series of occasional Hoptmists – the Rooligans, the Vikings, rainbow Hoptimists, seasonal ones (for Easter and Christmas), animals and many more. I love cats and dogs (here comes the veterinarian in me) and would really like to add a bunny and a sheep to my collection as well.

One of our first Hoptimist figurines though was the Bride and Groom that I got us in connection to our wedding.

 

Oprócz “tradycyjnej” kolekcji Classic, oferującej różne kolory i rozmiary Bimble (która jest dziewczyną) i Bumble (chłopaka), marka stworzyła kilka serii innych figurek. Są Rooligans, Wikingowie, tęczowe figurki, świąteczne, zwierzęta i wiele innych. Uwielbiam psy i koty (tu budzi się we mnie lekarz weterynarii), a później chętnie dodam do moich zbiorów królika i owieczkę.

Za to pierwszymi hoptymistami w naszym domu była para młoda. Kupiłam ją z okazji naszego ślubu.

 

 

 

 

The most recent addition to a Hoptimist family are the lamps. To be quite honest, when I first heard about them, I wasn’t sure if a joint of a figurine and a lamp was anything that I would like to have myself. I thought it would be great for the kids’ room, but not really anywhere else. So when the white XL lamp came, I opened it with an idea of placing it in the girls’ room and… as soon as I saw it, I knew that I wanted it to spend some time on my bedside table before it goes anywhere else. It is so cool and I absolutely love the dimmer, making it easy to control the light intensity. I mean, how fun is this fellow? I need to find a name for him and I will happily hear your suggestions.

 

Najnowszy dodatek do oferty marki to lampy. Kiedy o nich usłyszałam, pomyślałam, że połączenie fgurki Hoptimist z lampką świetnie sprawdzi się w pokoju dzieci. Nie bardzo widziałam taką lampę gdziekolwiek indziej. Dlatego wielkie było moje zdziwienie, kiedy otworzyłam karton z białą lampą XL. Gdy ją zobaczyłam, z miejsca doszłam do wniosku, że zanim ruszy dokądkolwiek, po prostu musi postać trochę przy moim łóżku. Jest absolutnie świetna, a możliwość płynnej regulacji natężenia światła jest niezwykłym bonusem. Zobaczcie sami jakie cudo. Muszę jej (a właściwie jemu) nadać imię, chętnie przyjmę wszelkie pomysły.
