Georg Jensen, a famous Danish sculptor, ceramist and silver smith used to say “DO NOT FOLLOW FASHION, BUT BE GUIDED BY THE PRESENT.” Founder of one of the best recognizable Danish brands was not only a very skilled artist and craftsman but also one of the wisest entrepreneurs of his era. Some weeks ago I had a great pleasure to visit Georg Jensen‘s headquarters in Copenhagen and today I will share with you some of its highlights.

Twórca jednej z najbardziej rozpoznawanych na świecie duńskich marek był nie tylko utalentowanym artystą i rzemieślnikiem, ale też zdolnym przedsiębiorcą. Parę tygodni temu miałam okazję odwiedzić mieszczącą się w Kopenhadze siedzibę marki Georg Jensen. Mam dziś dla Was kilka kadrów z tej wizyty.
From the moment that Georg Jensen (1866-1935) opened his silversmith in 1904, he set a tone for his company that would chart its course for decades to come. Its innovative spirit, impeccable craftsmanship, and Scandinavian design sensibility became its hallmarks. The Georg Jensen Silversmithy created some of the most original and epoch-defining jewelry, hollowware and cutlery patterns. At Jensen’s death in 1935 the smithy was acknowledged as one of the most important silversmithies in the world.

Jego innowacyjny duch, nienaganny kunszt i skandynawska stylistyka stały się znakami rozpoznawczymi marki. W warsztacie Georga Jensena powstały jedne z najbardziej oryginalnych i określających epokę wzorów biżuterii, naczyń i sztućców. Po śmierci Georga w 1935 r. jego niezwykły warsztat został uznany za jeden z najważniejszych na świecie.
Georg Jensen cultivates its exceptional tradition, creating beautiful jewelry and decorative home accessories for both very traditional and very modern homes. It’s silversmiths are known to be amongst the world’s finest. They continuously create new pieces from the brand’s portfolio. Georg Jensen’s archives hold over 3000 projects of different products which all can be made again if desired.
Marka Georg Jensen kultywuje swoją wyjątkową tradycję, tworząc piękną biżuterię i dodatki do wnętrz zarówno dla bardzo tradycyjnych, jak i bardzo nowoczesnych domów. Jego złotnicy są uznawani za jednych z najlepszych na świecie. Stale tworzą nowe produkty z portfolio marki. Archiwa Georga Jensena zawierają ponad 3000 projektów różnych przedmiotów, które w razie potrzeby można stworzyć na nowo.
Nowadays Georg Jensen works with some of the most talented designers from around the globe, creating new products for personal and home use. During the Design Tour, I was lucky to be amongst some of the first people to see a new Helix series, designed by Carl Philip Bernadotte and Oscar Kylberg, a Stockholm-based design agency Bernadotte & Kylberg. Helix is a new tea and coffee set, designed with a deep appreciation and respect towards the heritage of Scandinavian design. It was very interesting to hear Oscar’s story about how it was created and a great joy to see some of the first pieces. The Helix collection is made of stainless steel, beautifully designed and very functional. I love it so much that I think that it actually deserves a post on its own.
Obecnie Georg Jensen współpracuje z jednymi z najbardziej utalentowanych projektantów z całego świata, regularnie tworząc nowe produkty. Podczas Design Tour miałam szczęście być jedną z pierwszych osób, które zobaczyły nową serię Helix, zaprojektowaną przez Carla Philippa Bernadotte i Oscara Kylberga tworzących sztokholmską agencję projektową Bernadotte & Kylberg. Helix to nowy zestaw do parzenia kawy i herbaty, zaprojektowany z głębokim uznaniem i szacunkiem dla dziedzictwa skandynawskiego designu. Bardzo interesujące było posłuchać Oscara opowiadajacego o tym jak wraz z Philippem stworzył tę kolekcję. Produkty wchodzące w jej skład wykonane są ze stali nierdzewnej, pięknie zaprojektowane i bardzo funkcjonalne. Spodobały mi się tak bardzo, że myślę, że zasługują na oddzielny post.
I would like to thank the Georg Jensen team for an amazing adventure and some great moments in Copenhagen. I have admired this brand for as long as I can remember so being able to enter it’s extraordinary world was a great honor and an unforgettable experience.
